Monday Musings 10/30

My Week:  It was a pretty normal week last week, which was a good thing! The majority of my weekend was spent doing yard work--we had barkdust delivered on Friday and spent the weekend spreading it and getting the yard work done. We finished everything we've wanted to get done since we moved in, so that was great! Reading: My week was so busy I didn't get much reading done! Almost done with Lilac Lane-will probably finish it today! Not sure what's up next but I'll decide that later tonight! Such a mood reader! Watching: The World Series! I'm not a baseball fan but my goodness this series has been fun to watch!! Workouts: Had a good run at the gym on Monday, an awesome Strong by Zumba  class on Wednesday, and a great PiYo class on Thursday! Plus our Saturday walk and all the yard work made for a great week on the exercise front! Has anyone else tried Strong by Zumba? What do you think? I love it! Cooking: Yesterday I made lasagna, and it was delicious! Also made a pot o…

Review: Without Merit

Title: Without Merit
Author: Colleen Hoover
384 pages, published October 3, 2017
Source: Purchased for myself

From Goodreads:

The Voss family is anything but normal. They live in a repurposed church, newly baptized Dollar Voss. The once cancer-stricken mother lives in the basement, the father is married to the mother’s former nurse, the little half-brother isn’t allowed to do or eat anything fun, and the eldest siblings are irritatingly perfect. Then, there’s Merit.

Merit Voss collects trophies she hasn’t earned and secrets her family forces her to keep. While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan. His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into her—until she discovers that he’s completely unavailable. Merit retreats deeper into herself, watching her family from the sidelines when she learns a secret that no trophy in the world can fix.

Fed up with the lies, Merit decides to shatter the happy family illusion that she’s never been a part of…

Monday Musings 10/23/2017

My week: It was a busy but pretty normal week for me. We had our third program in four weeks at work so things were a bit crazy there and it made the week feel even longer, so I was pretty happy to make it to the weekend!

Reading: I finished Without Merit, and I hate to say it...I didn't love it. I still love CoHo and will continue to read her books but this one just didn't do it for me. Full review on the blog later this week. This weekend was also Dewey's readathon! I finished Before I Go to Sleep so the weekend reading was huge success. Today I'm starting Lilac Lane for my TLC Book Tour review coming up on November 6th. Isn't that cover gorgeous?

Watching: The Good Doctor. Anyone else been watching it? Despite the gory parts (where I look at my book instead, haha) I really love the show.

Drinking: We opened this gorgeous bottle of Pinot Noir from Left Coast Cellars this weekend!  We are wine club members and this bottle was in our Spring 2017 allocation. The top w…

Dewey's Readathon

Dewey's 24 hour readathon is tomorrow! I've participated in a few of these and I'm excited to participate again! This week, including Saturday, is supposed to bring a "river" of rain to the Pacific Northwest, so it's the perfect excuse to stay inside and read! I've been pulled in so many different directions lately I haven't had as much time to read. Usually I read during my lunch break at work but now that we have Elway I have to go home at lunch to let him out (he's still a puppy so he can't hold his bladder long!). So that takes up my reading time, unfortunately! So I'm looking forward to this rainy Saturday to relax and catch up on some reading. The Books Here's the plan, for now...:) I'm such a mood reader. I change my mind a lot! Before I Go to Sleep: Breanne's book club (one of my besties who lives in Seattle) is reading this one this month. I haven't read it and it sounded interesting, so I'm reading it this month t…

ARC Review: Now That You Mention It

Title: Now That You Mention It
Author: Kristan Higgins
Expected Publication Date: January 1, 2018

Note: I received this book from the publisher via Edelweiss to facilitate my review. I received no other compensation, and all opinions are my own.

From Goodreads:

One step forward. Two steps back. The Tufts scholarship that put Nora Stuart on the path to becoming a Boston medical specialist was a step forward. Being hit by a car and then overhearing her boyfriend hit on another doctor when she thought she was dying? Two major steps back.Injured in more ways than one, Nora feels her carefully built life cracking at the edges. There's only one place to land: home. But the tiny Maine community she left fifteen years ago doesn't necessarily want her. At every turn, someone holds the prodigal daughter of Scupper Island responsible for small-town drama and big-time disappointments.

With a tough islander mother who's always been distant and a wild-child sister in jail, unable to raise her…
