Library Lovers' Book Tag

I found this on Agel's Guilty Pleasures and thought it would be a fun Friday post! I'm missing my library like crazy right now!! This picture is one of the last times I visited the library before it closed due to COVID-19.

How often do you visit your local library?

Normally, I visit at least once a week. My library is part of this awesome system of networked libraries--there is a branch in the town where I live, and there is a branch in the town where I work (15 minutes away). The branch close to work is only four blocks away from my office--ideal for a nice lunch break walk and browse.  I'm either there or the one close to my home at least once a week. Right now, I am accessing my library's digital resources, particularly audio books--which I can access through the Libby app!  I also work at a university and have access to the library on campus, which is just dreamy. They have a fantastic recreational reading section that will frequently have new releases just sitting there on the shelf when there is a hold list a mile long at the public library. I visit it at least once a week too on breaks.

Are you the type of person who checks out more books than you know you can read or are you someone who only checks out the exact amount of books you intend on reading before they are due?

Oh goodness. I have no self control. I can't just check out one book.  I always bring home a stack! I can always renew if need be. Alternately, I am one of those people who returns my books as soon as I possibly can after I'm done reading them, in case someone has a hold.

How old were you when you got your first library card?

I was four or five--I know it was in 1988 but I don't remember if it was before or after my birthday. I had my original card up until  I graduated college. I had it until it was literally falling apart and the library finally just gave me a new one!   I remember going to the library all the time as a kid!

Do you go to your library looking for a particular book or do you check out anything that peaks your interest?

Both! Frequently I will go there to pick up a book I have on hold, and then browse a bit :) Sometimes it's just purely to browse and be in the company of books. It's so calming to be there on a lunch break in the middle of a crazy day. The picture above was taken on this kind of day.

Do you use your library to check out just books or do you also check out dvds, audiobooks etc.?

I definitely check out audio books through the Libby app, as I said in the first question. I always forget they have DVDs! But for sure audio and ebooks.

From what section of your library do you check out a majority of your books? ( YA, middle grade, adult, nonfiction.)

Primarily adult fiction, but I also LOVE checking out cookbooks!!

What is your favorite part of using your local library?

What's not to love?! It's a fantastic (and free!) community resource that calms me simply by setting foot inside. I love the feeling of just browsing the shelves. I love knowing that others have read and loved the books I'm reading. I love seeing others in the library get excited about books they're finding. I just LOVE The library!!

What do you love about your library? Feel free to share some library love in the comments or post your own answers! Happy Friday!

  2. This is great! I'm definitely guilty of spending too much time perusing the shelves and leaving with a stack of books that I'll never be able to get through before they are due. I'm missing those visits now, but I'm thankful for being able to still check out ebooks and audiobooks!

  3. I miss the public library these days. I used to volunteer and work at one, but more recently, I've attended craft events and one of their book clubs.
