Georgie and Neal's marriage isn't doing very well, and hasn't been for a long time.  When Christmas comes and it's time for a trip to visit Neal's family in Omaha, Georgie chooses to stay behind because of a work meeting for a new TV show she's writing with her best friend, Seth. Neal is upset and takes the kids to Omaha without her. While given sometime alone while Neal is gone, Georgie finds a way to communicate with Neal--from 1998--through her old yellow land line telephone.  Georgie feels like she's been given the opportunity to fix her marriage before it started....or would she be better off it her marriage had never happened?

I absolutely love Rainbow Rowell's books, and this one is no exception.  Though all her novels are creative and unique, this book stands out. I loved the creative use of the phone as a way to time travel back to when Georgie and Neal were first dating to help her remember why she fell in love with him in the beginning. This novel explored marriage and relationships in a different and deeper way that makes you think. This book portrays marriage and relationships in a real way, and shows that marriage, and any  relationship, takes hard work. You must choose to put your relationship first every single day.

Rowell's quirky and entertaining writing style shines in Landline.  The witty dialogue and pop culture references that are her trademark keep you laughing and eager to keep reading.  You absolutely will not regret reading this book. It is emotional, honest, laugh out loud funny, and real.  If you've never read Rowell's books before, now is the time!
